** Call for learner assessment materials (Testing your students) ** Most POGOe products contain materials that can be used for teaching or for self-directed learning. But, did you know that POGOe also offers a selection of restricted-access assessment materials? When submitting a product to POGOe, you can choose to provide it for “Open access” or for “Confirmed faculty access only”. If you choose the latter option, the documents associated with the product will be housed offline in POGOe’s local library. Users who request access must verify their faculty status before we release the materials. Requests are screened by the POGOe editors similar to the process used by MedEdPORTAL. We invite faculty to share their assessment materials with other educators on POGOe and can now assure that they will not be accessible to students.
Would you like to write a product review for publication in JAGS? JAGS (Journal of the American Geriatrics Society) is publishing reviews of POGOe products in their Educational Resources Review section. We are looking for faculty to write and submit these reviews. The articles are evaluated following the JAGS format, and will count as a peer-reviewed publication. Several product reviews have already been accepted for publication in future issues of JAGS. For more information, send an email to Editor@POGOe.org.
Share your wisdom! Comment on products you view and use! Use the POGOe evaluation system (stars and comments) to help others identify the strengths and weaknesses of POGOe products. All comments are anonymous and reviewed posting. Some examples: "I've found the quizzes extremely helpful -- I've incorporated some of them into my resident teaching -- excellent." (Geriatric Emergency Medicine Modules #20457) ; and "It is definitely interesting the first time you play but then after there is probably only one more play left before it becomes boring. However, it certainly teaches what it is designed to teach, but in a much more engaging format." (House Calls Video Game: Riskdom-Geriatrics #20297).
Fast Forward Rounds: An Innovative and Effective Transitional Care Curriculum By Drs. Karin Ouchida and Veronica LoFaso, and Carol Capello, PhD
Almost one in five geriatric patients suffers an adverse event during the transition from hospital to home. Almost 1/3 of those are preventable! The Fast Forward Rounds (FFR) aims to improve these numbers by providing a curriculum that emphasizes for medical students the importance of transition of care.
Introduced in July 2006 to teach key aspects of the discharge planning process for older adults with chronic illness, the program has been presented successfully for several years at the Weill Cornell Medical Center. The main objective of FFR is to encourage students to involve patients in the development of a comprehensive care plan, and to communicate that plan to the professionals who will provide post-hospital care. Geared for medical students in their clinical years, the course emphasizes the importance of transitions of care, teaches comprehensive discharge planning, provides an overview of services available, promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, and encourages students to develop comprehensive care plans. As the name of the course implies, learners are asked to fast forward to events that may affect their patients as they transition through the medical system, as well as to learn to anticipate challenges that may arise and to problem-solve ways to address them.
