Recent Comments on POGOe: "Great case study and example of CGA!" (Functional Assessment #18790) "I have found this helpful for teaching medical residents (PGY3), and it also has been quite useful for new physicians who are joining our practice. Thanks for putting this up!" (Geriatric Practice Improvement, or "Things I Wish Someone Would Have Told Me When I Started" #18966) New in ReCAP (Repository of Electronic Critically Appraised Papers):
Mini Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX) Primarily utilized to monitor learning progress during patient encounters, the Mini Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX) is a formative assessment method that simultaneously assesses clinical skills and offers feedback to the learner. It has been extensively evaluated in the context of internal medicine and found to be a reliable assessment tool of workplace performance for medical housestaff. A 2009 systematic review by Kogan et al in JAMA found that medical student programs have extensively utilized this assessment tool for various skills domains. This may partially be in response to the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) standard which requires that medical education programs include ongoing assessment activities that ensure that medical students have acquired, and can demonstrate on direct observation, the core clinical skills, behaviors, and attitudes that have been specified in the program's educational objectives. Featured Geriatric Site: Active Aging Week at the International Council of Active Aging – Active Aging Week is almost here. This annual event will be observed September 25th to October 1st this year. The International Council of Active Aging initiated this event to give as many older adults as possible the means to experience activities and exercise in a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere. During the week, host organizations provide a variety of free activities, such as classes, educational seminars, access to fitness facilities, health fairs and community walks. You can find a local event at the ICAA website, which also provides posters, logos and guides for planning an event at your own institution. A subsection of the ICAA website is also a great resource for the public. At www.icaa.cc/consumer.htm you will find ideas for an active lifestyle, information about activities, answers to common questions, and links to additional sources of information. For instance, in the "Welcome back to fitness" section there are easy to read brochures on topics like "Questions to ask your doctor about exercising" and "Tips on how to become more active". Explore these great resources at www.icaa.cc/aaw.htm. |
