Citing Your Work Posted on POGOe
Did you know that you can cite your POGOe products on your CV? Here is how:
Last, First + Middle initial, title, “Product Title”. The Portal of Geriatric Online Education (POGOe); publication year. Available at http://www.pogoe.org under product ID #_____.
Example:
Bickley, Lynn; Jones, Betsy. “Texas Tech Medcast Reynolds Geriatrics Series: Assessing the Older Adult”. The Portal of Geriatric Online Education (POGOe); 2008. Available at http://pogoe.org/productid/20262.
KnowledgeMap: The POGOe Concept-based Search Engine
Developed by the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Department of Biomedical Informatics, KnowledgeMap uses natural language processing and statistical techniques to map full-text documents to biomedical concepts by indexing them according to the National Library of Medicine’s Unified Medical Language System. For example, “lungs became congested” is read as “pulmonary congestion”. This approach provides a holistic perspective of a specific concept in the context of the entire POGOe library.

Wikipedia defines podcasts as "a series of audio or video digital-media files which is distributed over the Internet by syndicated download, through Web feeds, to portable media players and personal computers." With portable media players such as iPods being quite ubiquitous nowadays, it is not surprising that geriatric medical educators have utilized podcasts as an alternative way for students to learn content outside the usual time of instruction as well as venue. One of the first institutions to utilize this Web 2.0 tool is Texas Tech University HSC in Lubbock TX with their series "Medcast Reynolds Geriatric Series." Produced by Betsy Jones EdD, Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine, the series offers audio podcasts of various key geriatric topics such as functional assessment, health literacy, polypharmacy and nursing home visits.
